INFOSYS PAPER ON 2nd MARCH AT CHENNAI

Hi Friends,

Let me thank this site first for giving me a guidance and opportunity to get

placed at Infosys. To start with, let me tell u one thing. The selection

procedure of Infosys ( New Pattern) is very easy and you have to work a little

hard to ensure that u r placed. More over, your luck also plays a major part.

Let me describe the selection procedure and my experiences. I think it might

help you to focus in a correct direction .

The Selection Procedure had three phases:
PPT presentation on INFOSYS made by the head of the HR recruiting team
Aptitude and Verbal Reasoning
HR Interview

In the morning( around 10 am), after the arrival, u will be exposed to a ppt

presentation on Infosys. I am sure that this will motivate enough to get placed

at Infosys.

Next, we were allowed to disperse and we were allotted rooms for our test.

After we are settled in our rooms, we were given an application form to fill it

up. The instructions to fill the application form will be announced prior. Be

careful in filling those forms and provide accurate statistical data of your marks

as far as possible.

Next comes the Aptitude test. It was started at 11.50 pm. The time limit for aps

is 40 mins within which u have to complete 30 q’s. The aptitude session

consists of the following sub groups.
A puzzle and 5 objectives based on the puzzle.
5 Problems on finding the next figure in the series.
5 Problems on data Sufficiency( Little tricky)
Data Interpretation: A table was given and 5 questions followed it.(an easy

one)
Once again a puzzle which is little tough as compared to the previous one with

5 questions followed it
Last 5 questions on Syllogism.

The puzzles I mentioned here are not the real puzzles which u will find in

Shakuntala devi and George summers but simple ones that u will find it in R S

Aggarwal verbal reasoning book under the topic Puzzle test. For all the above

pattern u can refer R S aggarwal book.

After 40 mins they collected the question paper for aps and gave us verbal q

paper. Here is where u have to put more effort. The verbal part is very tough

as compared to aptitude. If u are strong at basic grammar (particularly tenses

and phrases) u will have this cleared.

There will be 40 q’s which u have to finish in 30 mins. Time management is

very much essential here. The pattern of this question is:
2 Passages( R C) followed by 5 q’s each. The first one was easy and the

second one was little tough.
Selecting the correct option which is grammatically correct from the available

four options.
fill in the blanks type questions
Replacing the underline phrases with suitable ones
Deriving conclusion from small passages.

For grammar, you can refer WREN & MARTIN book.

The tests are over by 1 pm. They told us that the results will be announced by

3.30 pm. There were 160 students from our College( Dhanalakshmi College of

Engg.,) attended the test. The results for our college was announced at 6 o

clock and soon after that we were called to attend the HR Interview. There

were 59 students who are shortlisted for the Interview. The Interview started

Immediately after the announcement of written tests.

There were 8 panels and the segregated us into 8 groups. All the 8 panel HR’s

were so cool and they asked just simple questions from the Resume. Some of

our panels had puzzles also.

I was allotted to a gent HR who was really cool and jovial. He made me

comfortable and offered me a biscuit. I accepted it and said thanks. Then he

started asking some simple questions from the Resume like

1. Tell me abt urself?

2. How good are u at innovation?

3. What are all your leadership qualities?

4. Explain a situation where u were so innovative

5. How do u manage in a team?

6. Hobbies?

7. Explain abt the camps and its schedule that u had attended( I

mentiond it in my resume)

8. What are the extra courses that u r going now?

9. He gave me a puzzle and I solved it. They see only the approach

and not arriving at the solution.

10. Extra curricular activities and some q’s based on it

Then he asked me tat do I have any question? I asked him tat how would my

performance be measured in the job so tat I can prepare mentally to achieve

the peak in the job?

He answered me tat it is too early to concerned abt those issues and he

commented that it was a very good qn and he liked my attitude. Then he asked

me to check my mails regularly( which is an indirect sign tat I got placed).

Then he wished me for my bright future… I came out with confidence.

The results were announced by 10 pm.

I was very happy to hear that I got selected. 44/59 were selected.

So friends, The main thing is to prepare a little and project a lot. Use your

innovative and creative ideas and make sure tat it is exhibited. Be yourself and

be confident. Hope this will help you. See u at INFOSYS…

Regards,
Venkat

INFOSYS PAPER OM 1st MARCH AT GHAZIABAD

Hi friends……. This is Tarun Agrawal from ABES Engineering college, Ghaziabad

. I appeared for the Infy exam held at IPEC, Ghaziabad on 1st March 2007 .

As you all must be knowing, the recent format for the Infy exam is as follows:-

Written test.
HR interview
Written test is in two parts:

Aptitude(30 ques, 40 minute)
English(40 ques, 35 minute).
Before the commencement of the exam they will ask you to fill up an

application form….which asks for a very detailed description about you… your

eyesight and even the last major illness (with date) is asked for… be careful

while filling the columns of your marks and aggregate percentage (till your last

semester results) as they ask for it separately… this particular column creates

great confusion and often leads to cuttings in the application form….

The format for the written exam was as follows:

1.Logical Reasoning/ Analytical Reasoning(5 ques)

2.Spot the odd picture out of the given 5 pictures.(5 ques)

3.Data Sufficiency(5 ques)

4.Data Interpretation(5ques)

5.Logical Puzzle(5 ques)

6.Data Deduction/Deductive Reasoning

I advice you all to refer some CAT material such as TIME and CL… or else

please go for Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S.Aggarwal…but selective

topics only…

1.The first question was a bit tricky and required calculations more with brain

work rather than paper work….

It was something like this(not exactly this):

At a CL institute there are 4 consulters, 10 conceptors, 4 readers…. Each work

10 hours a day. A consultor can frame his part of ques in 1 hour, conceptor-

half hour, reader- 1 hour….

A) max how many ques can be framed in a day…?

B) how many ques can be framed if number of readers are increased by

10…?

C) if number of conceptor work is 5 less than the readers work than how

many questions framed in one day…?

D) ……(don’t remember)

E) …….(don’t remember)

2.Spot the odd picture- do good practice from R.S.Aggarwal

3. Data Sufficincy questions are mainly maths based…..(you generally don’t

find maths based questions in RS.Aggarwal… go for some CAT material)
i).angle ABC of a triangle is right angled…

(a).if other two angles are equal

(b).if some of other two angles is equal to angle ABC

Ans: only (b) require

ii) we can determine the distance between office and house of Mohan?

(a).if mohan travels at a speeed of 30kmph then he reaches office 10

minutes late

(b). if mohan travels at a speed of 40kmph then he reaches office 10 minutes

earliar

Ans: both the statement are required

iii). the length of diagonal BD of a rhombus ABCD, where the major diagonal is

AC, can be known if:

(a).the length AC=10cm

(b).the length CD=6cm

Ans: both are required

iv). in a cyclic quadrilateral ABCD, angle ABC is obtained:

(a).angle BCD is 70 degrees

(b).sum of angle CDB and BCD is 130

v). I don’t remember this one…..

4. Data Interpretation: there was a simple table for exports from India to

various countries…. 5 questions based on percentages and additions …. You

require fast calculations……(practice R.S.Aggarwal)

5. puzzle type question…. ( I don’t remember the exact question) but

somewhat like…. Names of five or six people are given…. Few of their interests

are mentioned…. You have to tell who’s who…..(R.S.Aggarwal is more than

sufficient)

6. Deductive reasoning: questions like… all pens are pencils…. All cups are

pens… then conclusion is… I:all pencils are pens II: all pencils are cups

For such questions eye on some CAT material…. RS is also more than

sufficient for this.

English Test:

Two long RCs….10 questions………. Attempt at last if time permits else go for

guess work as there is no negative marking…

10 question based on: choose the correct sentence from the given 4 choices.

10 questions based on: choose the best phrase in place of underlined portion

of the sentence fron the given 4 choices….(a real tough one and time taking as

well…)

5 questions based on: fill in the blanks from the given 4 choices(most easier

portion)

5 questions based on: inferential reasoning….. read a paragraph of about three

or four sentences then choose the option that supports the paragraph or

comdemns the paragraph or is the theme of the paragraph …etc…(easy one,you

can do it..)

For the English test you may brush up with some good CAT material….

Moreover you can even skip preparations for this segment. Even I never

prepared it beforehand…. But guys English Test will really make you sweat if

you are not accustomed to English usage…. Go for CAT material if you are

weak at English….

We had our results at about 8pm on 1st March itself but after a long wait of

nearly 8 hours…… I was among the 319 shortlisted out of 1500 for the

interview.

Next day we had our interview….. believe me friends HR was a cake walk…it

lasted just for about 10 minutes or even less…. (tip: be confidant and stress on

current affairs……)

After a long wait of 8 hours (on this day too…) we had our results….only about

150 were selected and finally, I made it to INFOSYS….

At last I will like to mention a great THANKS to all those who had contributed

to this site www.freshersworld.com .It helped a lot and that’s why I wanted to

share my experience so that you all may also benefit from it….

INFOSYS PAPER ON 1st MARCH AT GHAZIABAD

Hi friends, I am Yamini Juneja, Sixth Semester, B.Tech (CS) student of IPEC,

Ghaziabad..

It feels great to be a part of INFOSYS.. I hope I’ll b able to help you guys with

my experience..

First and foremost important thing is to be confident.. if u trust yourself, you

have won half the battle.. even if you don’t get through, don’t get

disappointed.. The world does not end here, may be you a better opportunity is

waiting for you..

Now back to the point.. the written paper was on 1st March 2007 an HR on the

next day..

INFOSYS pattern:

1) Reasoning Ability (30 questions ,40 minutes)
English Aptitude (40 questions,35 minutes)

2) HR round

They eliminated most of us in written so I would suggest you to prepare well

for it..

Only 66 of us got selected for written out of 250..

The most important thing is TIME MANAGEMENT….

I don’t remember the questions well.. but what all I can recollect is here..

1) PUZZLE

A DI ques has to pass through three stages A,B,C.. there are 4 men to check at

stage A, 10 men at stage B and 4 men at stage C.. each man works for 10 hrs a

day.. A DI ques takes 1 hr at Stage A,2 hrs at Stage B and 1 hr at Stage C

and an apti ques takes 45 mins at Stage A,2hrs at stage B and 1 hr at Stage C.
There were 5 ques based on the data provided.. like…

At most how many DI ques could be solved in a day..

If 3 more men get involved in stage A then at most how many ques can be

solved in a day..

They were pretty easy..

2) LOGIC

5 ques were there to find the odd one among the 5 pictures given for each..

they were a little tricky..

You can find these type of ques in VERBAL AND NON VERBAL REASONING, R.S

Aggarwal

3) DATA SUFFICENCY(5 ques)

one of then which I remember is:

find the angle ADC in cyclic quadrilateral ABCD

1. angle BCD + angle ADC = 77

2. angle BAD= 55

Remember you don’t have to solve the ques but to find out whether

a) 1 alone is sufficient to answer the question.
b) 2 alone is sufficient to answer the question.
c) either of 1 or 2 is sufficient to answer the question.
d) both are insufficient to answer the question.
e) both are required to answer the question.

Ans to above is e

4) DATA INTERPRETATION

A table of imports from diff countries to India was given and 5 ques were

based on it.. there were very lengthy calculations and I would suggest to

apply hit and trial here otherwise you’ll end up wasting most of your time.
Practice DI ques from QUANTITATIVE APTITUTE by R.S aggarwal

5) A PUZZLE again

It was like there were six people A,B,C,D,E sitting in 2 rows..

B and C can not sit in corner and other relevant data and then 5 ques based

on it..

It was very easy..

Practice the puzzles from VERBAL AND NON VERBAL REASONING, R.S

Aggarwal

6) SYLLOGISM

This is again there in VERBAL AND NON VERBAL REASONING, R.S

Aggarwal
I would sugguest you to go through examples of

Blood relations
Puzzle test
Logical Venn Diagrams
Ranking and time sequence Test
Data Sufficiency
Logic (Just learn those 9 rules)
Series
Cubes ( go through the ques like a painted cube was cut and then you have to

find the no. of find 1 side painted cubes… and so on..)
from VERBAL AND NON VERBAL REASONING, R.S Aggarwal.. n do about 10

examples from each chapter.. n if can arrange for any CAT material then plz do

that… it really helps.. the paper is usually lengthy so go for easier first like

puzzles, DS and SYLLOGISM.. DI can be tough so do it at end..

At the end of the day its all luck.. so give your best but be prepared for the

worst..
The English paper had

1) 2 Reading Comprehensions.. DO them at the end.. they are quite

lengthy..

and if you don’t get enough time to read them then try to make out answers by

going through glimpse of the comprehensions

2) Argument-Conclusion type.

3) Sentence Correction.

4) Choosing grammatically correct sentences.

English is easy if you are go at spoken English.. you can not

learn English in few days but i would suggest you to go through IMS material

on English.. it’s good..

My HR was really cool..

In HR they judge your analytical ability.. They check for how you handle

stress.. your confidence, communicational skills,

presence of mind, overall personality..

me: GOOD AFTERNOON ma’am..

intr: GOOD AFTERNOON.. Have your seat..

me: thank you ma’am…

(then she asked me to sign a paper)

intr: tell me abut your background , your achievements, your education…

me: told (be cool.. don’t get nervous.. they will make it out.. be natural when

you answer even if you have prepared the answer before.. relate your

strengths with their requirements.. )

intr: tell me about your family background

me: told ( tell how you have learned from your parents.. they don’t want to

know whether your dad is a doctor or an IAS.. they want to know more of

you, so don’t boost about your family but tell them what you learned from their

experiences)

intr: what sacrifice your parents have made for you..

me: told..

intr: then she asked me to make 8 equilateral triangles from 12 matchsticks..

me: (they don’t want your answer, they want to judge you presence of mind

and how you handle stress.. jst keep trying until she/he asks you to stop)

intr: tell me about your close friends..

me: told..

intr: how do you update yourself..

me: I’m not that good newspaper reader but I do keep record of what is

happening around me through internet and television.. ( Don’t lie, if you don’t

read newspaper it’s perfectly fine.. )

intr: If fire catches your house and you have a 20*20 box, what will you take

in it..

me: I’ll take my certificates and some money in it..

intr: where do you keep all your certificates..

me: told..

intr: if your two close friends utter all bad about you to your project head and

you came to know about it from a very reliable source then how will you react..

me: told ( see, they do check how you handle situations… don’t mix up

professional life with your personal life.)

intr: okay.. BEST OF LUCK..

me: thank you ma’am.. It was nice meeting you…

Important is to be confident, calm, and to impress the panel…
You should know about the capital of all states in India and major countries..

go through headlines (Budget, elections(newly elected chief ministers..), IT

sector.. TATA-chorus) they can ask you to mention 25 news.. You should be

well aware of names of all ministers..

All questions are from your CV so be through with it.. always back up your

strengths and weaknesses with examples..
Finally 52 got selected after HR and I was one of them… Thanks to all who

contributed to Freashersworld.com..
BEST OF LUCK…. Just work hard and you’ll make it… Hope to see you all in

INFOSYS…

General Tips To Overcome An Interview

So what if you are not a mountaineer. Or a keen hiker. You still cannot treat

your interview like a careless morning trot along a jogger’s path. Your jaw-jaw

at the interview table is nothing less than a cautious climb up a mountain

trail–which begins around your early childhood and meanders through the

years at the academia before reaching a new summit in your career. And as you

retrace your steps down memory lane make sure that you post flags at

important landmarks of your life and career, so that you can pop them before

the interview panel scoops them out of you. You don’t want to be at the

receiving end, do you?

Face the panel, but don’t fall of the chair in a headlong rush-and-skid attempt

to tell your story. Take one step at a time. If you place your foot on slippery

ground, you could be ejecting out on a free fall.

So prepare, fortify your thoughts, re-jig your memory, and script and design

your story (without frills and falsity). Without the right preparation and

storyboard, you could be a loser at the interview. Here are a few preparation

tips that books on interviews sometimes overlook.

Before the interview
Strengths and Weaknesses

You should keep a regular check on your strengths and weaknesses. Write

down three (3) technical and three (3) non-technical personal strengths. Most

importantly, show examples of your skills. This proves more effective than

simply talking about them. So if you’re asked about a general skill, provide a

specific example to help you fulfil the interviewer’s expectations. It isn’t

enough to say you’ve got “excellent leadership skills”. Instead, try saying:

“I think I have excellent leaderships skills which I have acquired through a

combination of effective communication, delegation and personal interaction.

This has helped my team achieve its goals.”

As compared to strengths, the area of weaknesses is difficult to handle. Put

across your weakness in such a way that it at leaset seems to be a positive

virtue to the interviewer. Describe a weakness or area for development that

you have worked on and have now overcome.

Questions you should be prepared for

Tell us about yourself.
What do you know about our company?
Why do you want to join our company?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
How have you improved the nature of your job in the past years of your

working? Why should we hire you?
What contributions to profits have you made in your present or former

company? Why are you looking for a change?
Answers to some difficult questions :

Tell me about yourself ?
Start from your education…

What do you think of your boss?/college/city/country/….
Put across a positive image, but don’t exaggerate.

Why should we hire you? Or why are you interested in this job?
Sum up your work experiences with your abilities and emphasise your

strongest qualities and achievements. Let your interviewer know that you will

prove to be an asset to the company.
Do you prefer to work in a group?
Be honest and give examples how you’ve worked by yourself and also with

others. Prove your flexibility.

4. Questions to As

At the end of the interview, most interviewers generally ask if you have any

questions. Therefore, you should be prepared beforehand with 2-3 technical

and 2-3 non-technical questions and commit them to your memory before the

interview.

Do not ask queries related to your salary, vacation, bonuses, or other benefits.

This information should be discussed at the time of getting your joining letter.

Here we are giving few sample questions that you can ask at the time of your

interview.

Sample Questions

Could you tell me the growth plans and goals for the company?
What skills are important to be successful in this position?
Why did you join this company? (optional)
What’s the criteria your company uses for performance appraisal?
With whom will I be interacting most frequently and what are their

responsibilities and the nature of our interaction?
What is the time frame for making a decision at this position?
What made the previous persons in this position successful/unsuccessful?

5. Do your homework

Before going for an interview, find out as much information on the company

(go to JobsAhead Company Q and A) as possible. The best sources are the

public library, the Internet (you can check out the company’s site), and can

even call the company and get the required information. The information gives

you a one-up in the interview besides proving your content company or

position.

Clearing the interview isn’t necessarily a solitary attempt. Seek assistance

from individuals who are in the profession and whose counsel you value most.

Be confident in your approach and attitude; let the panel feel it through your

demeanour, body language and dressing.

Getting prepared for your interview is the best way to dig deep and know

yourself. You will be surprised that it would breed a new familiarity become

more familiar with your own qualifications that will be make you present

yourself better. All the best and get ready to give a treat.

TECH MAHINDRA(MBT) PAPER ON 11th JULY 06 AT K.J SOMAIYA COLLEGE OF ENGG. MUNBAI

hi friends this is sunny, got selected in tech mahindra on 17 july 2006

The test duration was 1 hour. It consisted of 75 questions as follows:

1.general english(35 questions)

1. (10) fill in the blanks without options on preposition, article and tenses.(very easy)

2. (15)There were questions on data sufficiency, choose the meaning of underlined sentence(but hardly any question had underline so we have to omit tht questions,i dont know whether they considered that qustions or not)

and some more vocab questions which could be easily solved

3.(10) there was a reading comprehension (easy one)

2.This section consisted of 20 questions

logical reasoning- it had questions like number series, find a no.in a 9*9 matrix (found in RS agarwal)

some questions like choose the venn diagram for the following conditions, some of them i remember as

1.teleophone,communication,banana(ans-choose the figure which has a circle in circle and a seperate circle)

2.petrol,fuel,vehicle

and two three such questions (u can find them in RS agarwal)

and some more easy questions on logical reasoning)

3.Arithmetic section (20 questions )

It had some questions on data sufficiency, some sums on work and time, percentage ,profit and loss ,and easier topics of RS agarwal.

I dont remember much of the questions since i had my aptitude test was on 11 and due to the bomb blast ,our interviews were held on 17 ,but till then i hardly remember any questions

My advice to u will be tht try to solve equal no of questions of each section because u will find english and logical section comparatively easier and will try to solve all the questions frm tht sections and finally miss the arithmetic section .

they will not tell u anything about the sectional cut off but it is there

there will be no negative marking.

There was a single interview HR and Tech combined.try to be patient .I had a complete HR one but many people were also asked on C and C++.the interview will be on ur resume and current affairs can also be asked.

Have a sound knowledge about the company.

finally i conclude with the statistics

Appeared for the aptitude-500

Cleared aptitude -175

Selected for the company -135

TechMahindra(MBT) Paper – 4 November 2006

TECH MAHINDRA PAPER ON 4th NOVEMBER KOLKATA

HI, friendz.I’m Amitava from Kolkata. It was an Off Campus drive for 2006 freshers batch. The aptitude was not so tough, but the buzzword was ‘TIME’…they will give u very little time to do these.u will be given one hour, and u need to answer 70 questions. There was no negative marking and sectional cutoff. They announced it prior to the test.So when ur time is almost exhausted, guessworks will come handy. There were five sections.

Section 1: It was fill in the blanks without any options.it was simple.Just fill in with prepositions, tenses etc.

Section 2: There were ‘choose the most appropriate word’.some small 3-4 line paragraphs will be given and u will be asked some easy questions on them. SEC 1 & 2 should be attempted first. It is scoring and one can do these 20 ques in maximum 15 mins.Score definite 20 here and keep much time for other sections.

Section 3: Comprehension.A paragraph in easy english is given. This should be attempted last. Sec 3 & 4 consists ( 20 + 20 =40 )ques. So these section is the decider.Try to solve quickly so u can attempt as much as possible before guesswork.

Section 4: Logical & Analytical Reasoning!! Solve R.S.Agarwal thoroughly. All those series completion, odd man out, figures, missing no,venn diagram, small puzzles etc etc given.

Section 5: Quantitative and Data Sufficiency.Solve R.S.Agarwal quantitative.Knowledge of solving Time & work,profit & Loss,average, age problems,percentage,Train ,Speed, Volume,Area etc will come handy.

They set a high cutoff.Only 29 cleared apti including myself from about 100.

Then in the same day we faced 3 interviews.

They call for technical interview first. It was a panel of two.One was an young man in his 20s, another was a middleaged man about 40+. They were friendly. They started with ..”Tell about yourself”.then as I’m a CS guy, started asking from C,C++,Java. They asked to rate myself in all those three.I rated. Then they asked to write the code of swapping two numbers using pointer and witout using temporary variable.I started well, but got a bit confused in the middle. They helped me.Then command line arguments in C & Java. Polymorphism, abstract class, multiple inheritance, interface, exceptions, operator/method overloading, overriding, java thread and two ways of implementation, arrays, stack related basic questions were asked.then they started with DBMS.At first they started with a unfamiliar question bout DBase.I told i didnt used or ever saw DBase.then Normalization,3NF,BCNF, referential integrity. They smiled and asked “Lets get into Oracle.” They asked if i know PL/SQL.I said no.They asked wat is subquery and asked to fetch the salary of the top 3 highest paid employees. It lasted for about 45 minutes. Then they asked me to wait in a room.

Then after half an hour of anxiety, one person came and called me for HR.This time it wasnt a panel.Only one middle aged gentleman. He asked me typical HR related questions such as why TM,why should we hire u,
strength, weaknesses, hobbies, semester marks, future plans. He seemed to be very intersted about philately i.e stamp collecting which i told as one of my hobbies.Asked about how many stamps I have,of which nations, catalogues, rare stamps, & blah blah. Then asked to wait in the same room again.

Then in 10 minutes they called again.now it was a luxuriously decorated room and I was greeted by an elderly lady. She asked me about how was the day, about my family, work culture at tech mahindra, pay package etc. Then asked me “If I select u, will u be able to cope up with immense pressure tat TM training will impart upon u??” Then asked “r u ready to sign a bond of 2 years??” I replied positively. Then surprisingly asked “O.K.Tell me what actually a bond is??” I replied “Its an agreement that I wont leave TM for a certain period of time otherwise…”.She interrupted me in the middle and asked “AGREEMENT!!!U r just a kid in the block and using such business jargons. Its a COMMITMENT ..” & blah blah!!Then asked to wait and HR will get back to u. It was 6 in the evening.I was exhausted and was thinking they will ask “U may leave for the day” as they were asking few other candidates.

After 5 mins they called me agin and smiled and said”Amitava.now u are one of us.U r selected and u will have to join Tm by DEC,06.” I was so happy.A long 1.5 yr job hunt ended atlast.I am thankful to God and all my well wishers. When I was getting so depressed tat no one will ever take me, God gifted me one of the best opportunity.I got thru a company tat many of my friends who cracked campus earlier would envy.

Best of Luck to ALL.
